Bernard Neate
Bernard is a brewer driven by precision, curiosity, and an uncompromising commitment to quality. With a background in biology and brewing science from Massey University, he combines technical rigour with an intuitive understanding of fermentation and flavour.
After honing his craft at Governor Brewing and leading Alibi Brewing Co. for eight years - earning Champion Exhibitor at the 2021 New Zealand Beer Awards - Bernard co-founded Twofold to push the evolution of his craft. At Twofold he creates beers that balance tradition with modern technique and fosters a team where meticulous design and talent thrive.
Co-Founder & Head BrewerJohn Austin
John is dedicated to the idea that the best beer deserves an even better experience. The right glass. A fresh batch. The perfect pour. Food to match. Having navigated the brewing industry from the supply chain to the brewhouse to the judging table, he brings a rare perspective as one of a few Certified Cicerones® in New Zealand.
At Twofold, John is driven to help provide guests with the best experience possible - to bridge the gap between the tank and the table, and ensure that the hospitality is as crisp and intentional as the beer itself. Whether he's sharing why beer is the world’s greatest beverage or ensuring the service is the real star of the show, John’s real focus is on building a place that brings people together.
Co-Founder & General ManagerAlexis is a French-born chef who’s been causing good trouble in New Zealand hospitality industry for over a decade. After opening and leading multiple Auckland restaurants, including award-recognised French dining establishments, he joined Twofold ready for a fresh challenge and a bit of fun.
With a deep understanding of food mechanics and an appetite for experimentation, Alexis builds bold, beer-led dishes that pull straight from the brewery, transforming and up-cycling ingredients into something unexpected. Rooted in classic French technique and powered by New Zealand produce, his food is playful, flavour-forward, and made to be enjoyed with good company and a cold one.
